January 2012 was the inaugural Cambridge MathsJam. You can read my thoughts on setting up a MathsJam here.

Some people worked on some problems I printed off from NRICH, which you can find here.

Some of us made a post-it note dodecahedron. If you don’t know how to make one, check out singingbanana’s YouTube video tutorial.

We included dominoes in our MathsJam resource bag, so some of us had a go at solving the following domino problem (again, taken from NRICH):

There are 28 dominoes in a set, which can be arranged in seven sets of four making a complete link, like the one below.

Is it possible to use all 28 dominoes arranging them in this way? What patterns can you see in the solution(s) and can you explain them? How do you know that you have all the solutions?

So far, our record is six sets of four dominoes. There is a solution on NRICH so we know it can be done!

Others brought interesting problems along, but alas I didn’t keep copies of them all. Please share in the comments anything you remember us working on that I haven’t documented!
